Articles and Updates from Phoenix Children's
Across the country, restaurants are reopening with new procedures in place to keep patrons safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic – but how does it work at The Cafeteria at Phoenix Children’s Hospital?
Many patients are continuing to receive treatment in the hospital – and this means their parents and caregivers are logging long hours here, too. We’re taking extra precautions to ensure visitors can enjoy a bite to eat during their stay at Phoenix Children’s.
Every day, our dining staff members are screened for fever and cold and/or flu-like symptoms – just like every other provider and employee at Phoenix Children’s. They, too, wear gloves and masks while working in The Cafeteria.
If you’ve ever gone to an amusement park, you’ll notice that our visual signage is similar to pre-ride messaging. Instead of “keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times,” you’ll see printed and digital signs in The Cafeteria that guide people on how to proceed while maintaining six feet of distance. We have also reconfigured food stations and cafeteria seating to make it easy for people to social distance.
Something else you’ll notice? That getting your food is quick and easy! That’s because we’re packaging meals grab-and-go style throughout The Cafeteria.
Regular Menu Items and Rotating Specials
If you’ve ever been to Phoenix Children’s, you know our menu is nothing like your average hospital. Chef Spiro and his team create new menu options every day and offer a wide (and delicious!) selection of items from the grill, pizza station, entrée station, deli and grab and go. You can enjoy favorites – like pizza, pasta, burgers, Mezza specials and vegetarian and vegan dishes – or choose among daily entrée specials, like baked herb talapia and farro butternut squash with dried fruit pilaf. All dishes are packaged to-go to limit physical contact, minimize lines and keep your family safer.
Download the BITE by Sodexo app to place a customized order from The Cafeteria in advance – it will be ready to go when you get there! Online orders can be placed from 11:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 4:30-7 p.m. each day.
We’re now offering touchless payment options at our cash registers.
Our “At Your Request” room service dining program gives parents and caregivers the option of placing their order and making payment by phone. Meals are $6.50 and are delivered to the patient room in a closed, sanitized cart. It’s a great option for people who don’t want to leave their child’s bedside.
Walk-up service at our first-floor coffee shop is available Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and on weekends from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. And coming soon: online ordering for the coffee shop and a coffee cart on wheels!
